'Harvest'
This body of work seeks to capture a landscape in a vessel. The forms, colours and surfaces reflect the varied seasons of the rural landscape of our family property, “Coolbaroo”, situated in the Coreinbob Valley, near Wagga Wagga in rural NSW. The colours are drawn from the seasons, both bountiful and barren. Times of abundant harvest and times of despair. They are a reflection on the fruitfulness of the earth and the tireless work that brings forth a crop that will feed and clothe our families. Bowl and cup forms have been used as a representation of meals shared together with extended family and the connections we all feel to this place.
Translucent porcelain captures the light whilst undulating rims echo the rolling hills of the horizon. Colours of the sky and earth gently move through the forms giving a sense of seasons passing. Open bowls decorated with ash glaze reflect times of drought.
Our family farm is a place of peace for me when we visit, a needed break from the noise and crowds of suburban life. A moment of stillness, taking in sky and fields, finding rest.
'Tea Travels'
More than ten years of my life has been spent as an expatriate, living in Europe and Asia. During these years, with family far away, close friends are made quickly. These friendships extend beyond cultures, lifetime bonds are formed through a shared sense of displacement but also of discovery; of people, places and self. Many of these friendships for me were cemented over cups of tea. This body of work captures some of my memories of these times.
